Our Staff
As neurologists, our physicians are highly trained to treat disorders of the nervous system, which include diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. Some of the more common problems that neurologists diagnose and treat are strokes, epilepsy (seizures), headaches, dementias (Alzheimer's disease), multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and various forms of pain. Neurologists may serve as consultants to other physicians and may provide long-term care to patients with chronic neurological disorders.

Dr. Corbett has been in neurological practice in the Capital District since 1976. Originally from Long Island, Dr. Corbett graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1967 and from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1971. He completed residency training in neurology at Albany Medical Center Hospital in 1976. Dr. Corbett is board certified in neurology and has served on several area hospital committees. He was also active as a member of the New York State Board of Professional Medical Conduct from 1980 to 1987 and the New York State Board of Medicine from 1989 to 1997. He taught neurology and served on the Board of Trustees at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine from 1980 to 1984. He served as a trustee for the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society. From 1989 to 1996, Dr. Corbett was Chief of the Neurology Section at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. He presently serves as Chief of Neurology at St. Mary's Hospital and is a former Chief of Neurology at Samaritan Hospital.

Dr. Schoen grew up in White Plains, New York. After graduating high school, he attended the combined six-year biomedical program with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, and Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York. Upon graduation, he completed residency in neurology at Albany Medical College, and has been in private practice in Albany since 1982.
Dr. Schoen treats patients with neurological disorders, which include headache, epilepsy, Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, strokes, dizziness as well as painful low-back and neck conditions. He is the former Chief of Neurology at Albany Memorial Hospital in Albany, New York.
Dr. Burdick was born and raised in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he received his bachelor's degree in english literature from Marist College in 1976. He attended medical school at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. After earning his M.D. in 1985, he came to Albany, New York, where he completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in neurology at Albany Medical College and affiliated hospitals. Subsequently, he served as a fellow in clinical neurophysiology at Albany Medical Center. He received board certification in neurology from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1990.
Dr. Burdick has practiced neurology in Albany and Troy, New York, with Capital Neurological Associates since 1990.
Dr. John Verdini received his B.S. in biology from Northeastern University and his M.S. in animal science-genetics at the University of Massachusetts. After several years as a biochemist for the University of Massachusetts Medical Center he went to Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. He graduated in 1988, followed by an internship and residency at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Dr. Verdini has been in private practice with Capital Neurological Associates since July 1992. He is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and holds membership in the American Academy of Neurology, Medical Society of the State of New York, and the Medical Society of the County of Albany. In addition he serves on the Samaritan Hospital Critical Care Committee, St. Mary's Hospital Medical Executive Committee, Chairman of St. Mary's Hospital Medicine Quality Improvement Committee, and is the acting Chairperson for the Department of Medicine at St. Mary's Hospital.
Dr. Billars was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. She earned a bachelor of sciences in biology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before going on to graduate from the University of South Dakota Medical School. Medical school was followed by an internship year at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore, MD and residency in neurology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. She stayed on at Emory to complete a fellowship in neurophysiology and sleep medicine.
In July 2008 Dr. Billars joined Capital Neurological Associates, treating patients with all forms of neurological disorders. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Gaye received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1985. She obtained a master's degree in nursing from the Sage Colleges in Troy, NY, in 1995. She received a post-master's certificate as an adult nurse practitioner in 2001 from the Sage Colleges.
Prior to joining Capital Neurological Associates in July 2001, Gaye was a clinical nurse specialist at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, New York. Gaye was co-principle investigator in a research project directed at post-stroke depression. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an adult nurse practitioner and as a clinical nurse specialist. She is also a multiple sclerosis certified specialist. Gaye holds memberships in the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses and the American Academy of Neurology.
Catherine received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the State University of New York at Utica in 1993. She received a master's degree as an adult nurse practitioner in 1998 and a post masters certificate as a family nurse practitioner in 2001. She has extensive experience in geriatrics, neurology, and family medicine. Catherine is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. Catherine is an affiliate member of the American Academy of Neurology and a member of the New York State Nurse Practitioner's Association.
Bernadette was born and raised in the Albany, New York, area. After attending Maria College and earning her AAS degree in nursing in 1982, she was employed at Albany Medical Center Hospital as a staff nurse on the Neuroscience Unit through 1996. Bernadette joined Capital Neurological Associates in October 1995. Bernadette is a multiple sclerosis certified specialist. She currently holds membership in the AANN (American Association of Neuroscience Nurses) and serves on the Professional Advisory Board for the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York.
